This is the precursor to our modern supermarket. I’m delighted that one of these still thrives today, in Redhill Lane Block 79 wet market to be specific. Everything is manual and old school – no cash register, no bar code scanner and no electronic weigher. In a very strange way, it resonates with my old-fashioned Leica I used to shoot this photo… Some things are just beautiful from the vintage point of view. Know what I mean?
